India raises film, TV promo overseas

$2.75 mil for film and TV push

NEW DELHI -- The Indian government said Tuesday that it has more than doubled the money it will spend to promote Indian films at overseas film festivals over the next five years.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said that $2.75 million will be spent on promoting Indian films at Cannes, Berlin, the American Film Market, and MIPCOM as a part of the government's 11th five-year plan (2007-12).

Under the 10th five-year plan for 2002-07, the government's "Participation in Film Markets" program spent $1.1 million.
