Truly Indie to Distribute 'Dumbstruck' Documentary

The Mark Goffman film will be released in theaters beginning March 26, becoming coming out on DVD through Magnolia Home Entertainment.

Truly Indie, the self-distribution outfit under the Wagner/Cuban Co.’s umbrella, and Magnolia Home Entertainment have pacted to distribute Mark Goffman’s documentary Dumbstruck to theaters and DVD.

Truly Indie will handle the theatrical distribution of the film, beginning March 26 in Dallas, Texas, before expanding to New York, Los Angeles and other select markets. Magnolia Home Entertainment will handle its DVD release.

The doc looks at the a ventriloquits’ convention, the Vent Haven Convention, held in Ft. Mitchell, Ky, which bills itself as “the
ventriloquism capital of the world."

The film was produced by Lindsay Goffman and exec produced by Elon Musk with David O. Sacks as a consulting producer.

“Goffman has made an artful film about the struggles and triumphs of unique brand of performers. He pulls you into their unusual, sort of absurd world and shows you an unexpectedly entertaining and touchingly human story,” Truly Indie’s Kelly Sanders said.

The deal was negotiated by Tom Quinn and Dori Begley of Magnolia Pictures and Kevin Iwashina of Parlay Media.
