Indie Distributor Artificial Eye Grabs U.K. Rights to Berlin Golden Bear Winner 'A Separation'

The company also secures three other titles for 2011 release slate.

LONDON – Indie distributor Artificial Eye has grabbed U.K.  distribution duties to Berlin Golden Bear winner A Separation, by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi.

The U.K. arthouse distribution powerhouse sealed a deal for the first ever Iranian movie to be awarded Berlin’s top plaudit with a July release scheduled this year.

Farhadi’s movie is billed as a moral and social drama set in modern day Iran and stars Peyman Moaadi and Leila Hatami, each awarded the Silver Bears for best actor and actress respectively.

The British company also took distribution duties to Bela Tarr’s The Turin Horse and Salt of Life, directed by Gianni Di Gregorio, both of which also featured in this year’s Berlinale lineup.

Artificial Eye also took all U.K. rights to Ismael Ferroukhi’s Free Men starring Tahar Rahim, the actor who lit up screens in A Prophet.
