Adult appetites are keeping little films like Moonrise Kingdom flourishing here and abroad.


Richard Linklater's comedy-drama has become a sleeper hit at the art house. The film stars Jack Black as a Texas mortician who befriends -- and is later accused of killing -- a wealthy widow (Shirley MacLaine). The film is a win for Millennium's new domestic distribution arm.

To Rome With Love

Mixed reviews haven't slowed Woody Allen's latest film, thanks to Allen's increased popularity following last year's Midnight in Paris and Sony Pictures Classics' rollout plan. Released in select theaters on June 22 in the U.S., To Rome With Love continues to expand its run.

Moonrise Kingdom

The Focus Features film is a breakout hit at the summer box office and already Wes Anderson's top-grossing film in North America after The Royal Tenenbaums ($52.4 million). Moonrise Kingdom opened in the States following its worldwide premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Fox Searchlight has struck again, this time with this British comedy-drama directed by John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) and featuring a high-profile cast that includes Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson and Maggie Smith.

The Intouchables

Following its wildly successful international run, the French feel-good comedy-drama has done solid business this summer in its limited U.S. run, considering how averse Americans can be to subtitles. The Weinstein Co. is handling domestic distribution.
