The festival will pay tribute to the Swedish film icon.

Each year before the unveiling of the official Cannes competition list comes the announcement of its eagerly anticipated official poster.

Last year Sophia Loren said seeing Marcello Mastroianni plastered across the Palais des Festivals brought tears to her eyes. This year’s poster will be no less emotional, paying tribute to actress Ingrid Bergman in honor of the centenary of her birth.

“My family and I are deeply moved that the Festival de Cannes has chosen to feature our magnificent mother on the official poster to mark the centenary of her birth,” said Isabella Rossellini. “Her outstanding career covered so many countries, from the smallest European independent films to the greatest Hollywood productions.”

Bergman, who headed the jury in Cannes in 1973, was the face of new cinema realism. She worked with directors Alfred Hitchcock, Roberto Rossellini and Ingmar Bergman, and starred opposite actors including Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart and Gregory Peck.

Ingrid Bergman, In Her Own Words‏, a documentary by Stig Bjorkman, will be screened as part of Cannes Classics. Additionally, Cannes will be affiliated with the Ingrid Bergman Tribute show next September. The show, directed by Guido Torlonia and Ludovica Damiani, will feature Isabella Rossellini, Jeremy Irons, Fanny Ardant and Christian De Sica, among others, and will travel through the key cities of Bergman’s life: Stockholm, Rome, Paris, London and New York.

The 68th Cannes Film Festival takes place May 13-24, with Joel and Ethan Cohen presiding over the jury. The official selection will be announced on April 16.
