Issa Rae Lands First Beauty Gig
Meet your new CoverGirl.
Issa Rae has scored her first beauty gig: The Insecure co-creator and star has been named a CoverGirl.
"I remember being an awkward black girl in high school, reading the pages of my favorite magazines, casually flipping through @COVERGIRL ads, singing their slogan in my head. Never EVER in my life did I imagine I'd be one," Rae captioned on Instagram. "I am SO honored and SO excited for what’s to come."
Added the actress: "My character is ever-evolving, and makeup is a tool to help transform my persona — whether for a role I play in content that I produce, or the different roles I take on in my life."
She joins Zendaya, Katy Perry and Sofia Vergara as CoverGirl ambassadors.
Rae rose to fame via her comedy web series, Awkward Black Girl, which premiered on YouTube in 2011 and also earned a Shorty Award for best web show in 2013. That success led her to start working on a comedy series pilot in 2013 with Larry Wilmore that would eventually become Insecure. The HBO hit recently aired its season two finale.
Rae also released her New York Times best-selling memoir, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, in February 2015.
The Los Angeles native is showing no signs of slowing down, either. Up next she'll work on a new comedy series called Minimum Wage.
