'Involuntary' to rep Sweden at the Oscars

Beat out 'Dragon Tattoo,' 'Let the Right One In'

COLOGNE, Germany -- Ruben Ostlund's dark comedy "Involuntary" beat out better-known local titles "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and "Let the Right One In" to become Sweden's contender for the foreign language Oscar.

The film, which premiered in Cannes' Un Certain Regard sidebar last year, features five unconnected storylines, linked by the common themes of peer pressure, summer indiscretion and misbehavior. It features local star Maria Lundquist amid a cast of amateurs and unknowns.

"Involuntary" was nominated for five Guldbaggers, Sweden's national film prize and picked up Sweden's critics' association best film nod last year.

The Academy will announce the 2010 Best Foreign Language Film nominees February 2, 2010. The 82nd Academy Awards will be held March 7, 2010.
