Ion picks up 'Drew Carey'

Ion Media Networks has acquired rights to "The Drew Carey Show" from Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution.

The sitcom is set to launch on Ion Television with a New Year's Eve marathon from 7-11 p.m. EST. It will be added to the network's weeknight primetime schedule starting Jan. 1, with airings at 9 and 9:30 p.m. EST Monday-Thursday.

Ion and WBDCD declined comment on the financial terms of the deal.

The show "advances our plan to broaden our network's appeal by targeting a contemporary audience with timeless humor and entertainment," Ion Media Networks CEO Brandon Burgess said.

"Carey," produced by Mohawk Prods. and Warner Bros. Television, aired for nine seasons -- from 1995-2004 -- on ABC. The series was created by Carey and Bruce Helford.
