'This Is Us' Star Justin Hartley Teases What’s to Come on Season Two Finale

"I will tell you I think our writers did a very good job at what I think is a huge task," Hartley told THR.

Audiences have come back week after week to tune in to one of the biggest shows on television, This Is Us, and they’ll be flocking to their screens tonight for the anticipated season two finale.

Justin Hartley, who plays Kevin Pearson, sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to tease the episode and how Kevin’s sobriety will affect Kate’s wedding, as well as what it was like working with A Beautiful Mind and Apollo 13 director Ron Howard.

While Hartley had to remain tight-lipped on tonight’s finale, he did tease, “I was able to see pieces of it today — I haven’t seen the whole thing all put together, but I was able to see pieces of it, and I will tell you I think our writers did a very good job at what I think is a huge task, which is taking a season like our second season, which was full of deep dives into these characters, and then making the finale worthy of 'being a finale,' because there’s a pressure that comes with that, I think.”

According to This Is Us showrunner Isaac Aptaker, Kevin will turn to wedding planning for his sister, Kate (Chrissy Metz), to help keep him focused on his sobriety. Hartley explained, “He’s staying sober and he’s figured out that idle hands are not good for him right now, so he needs to literally keep busy.”

“He’s not a wedding coordinator, he doesn’t really know what he’s doing, but he’s got the time and he loves his sister and he wants to make up for their father not being there, because he should have been there,” he told THR. “It’s not fair, so he’s trying to be Jack Pearson’s son. He’s trying to be his dad and make it as perfect as he can for his sister, who he loves very much.”

The season two finale of This Is Us airs tonight at 9 p.m. on NBC.
