Italy Box Office: Final 'Hunger Games' Triumphs

'Spectre' breaks into the top 10 films of the year.

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 opened in the number one box-office spot in Italy this weekend with $4.3 million. The end of the Katniss Everdeen saga had fans lining up at cinemas in Italy, even though the film opened worldwide at a $101 million franchise low.

Spectre stayed strong in its third week, clinching the number-two spot with a $1.93 million haul. It is now the third-highest film of the season, behind Inside Out and Minions.

With a total of $11.69 million, it broke into the top 10 films of the year in Italy, just behind Jurassic World, which currently holds the number-nine position. Italians flocked in droves to see the latest James Bond film, which was partially shot in Rome.

The week proved to be a strong week for local comedies with Matrimonio Al Sud opening in the number-three spot, Gli ultimi saranno ultimi at number five and Loro chi? at number six.

Pan brought in $1.1 million to rank fourth, and Anthony Hopkins-starrer Solace took in $680,602 in the number-seven spot.

The Peanuts Movie also held its own in its third week in Italy, with $574,209, good for eighth. Mr. Holmes followed with $530,297 and Secret in Their Eyes rounded out the top 10 with $339,655.
