Italy making d-cinema gains

ROME -- Digital cinema screens are finally gaining a foothold in Italy, reaching the milestone of 5% of all cinema screens in the country, according to information released Thursday by Dodona Research.

The first digital screens were installed a decade ago, but significant numbers have only been reached in recent years.

The 5% milestone is the first significant level reached by the new technology and a sign that it isn't only new cinemas being constructed with digital capabilities but also older facilities being refurbished.
