Italy's Passworld to animate 'Dolphin'

ROME -- Italian production house Passworld said Wednesday it has acquired rights to Sergio Bambaren's best-selling book "The Dolphin" and will soon start pre-production work on a full-length animated feature based on the story.

Work on the film will take place in Peru, with producers from Germany, Peru, and New Zealand joining Passworld in backing the CGI 3D animated film. Passworld said that News Corp's 20th Century Fox has signed on for the theatrical distribution of the film in Latin America.

Passworld said Bambaren would participate in the project as one of the screenwriters.

"The Dolphin" was a literary hit in Italy and Germany, where it combined to sell more than 5 million copies.
