Ivanka Trump Brand Secretly Relabeled by Distributor (Report)
The Ivanka Trump merchandise was renamed Adrienne Vittadini Studio without the label's knowledge.
Ivanka Trump's brand has been relabeled by its distributor.
The G-III Apparel Group Ltd., which makes Ivanka Trump clothes, has sold Ivanka Trump merchandise as Adrienne Vittadini Studio to Jacksonville, Fla.-based discount retailer Stein Mart, reports Business of Fashion. The re-labled products were sold without the Ivanka Trump brand's knowledge.
"G-III accepts responsibility for resolving this issue, which occurred without the knowledge or consent of the Ivanka Trump organization," read a statement from G-III. "G-III has already begun to take corrective actions, including facilitating the immediate removal of any mistakenly labeled merchandise from its customer. The Ivanka Trump brand continues to grow and remains very strong."
Indeed, G-III said net sales for the collection increased by $17.9 million during the year that ended Jan. 31.
On April 6, the first daughter's company won provisional approval from the Chinese government for three new trademarks, giving it monopoly rights to sell the label's jewelry, bags and spa services in the world's second-largest economy. The trademarks will also prevent counterfeiters or squatters from using her name, a rep for the brand told the Associated Press.
While the Ivanka Trump brand has been dropped by department stores, including Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, due to poor sales, other stores like Macy's and Zappos continue to add new product to its inventory.
Resale site ThredUP revealed that sellers are putting their gently used Ivanka Trump products up for sale at an astounding rate — either because the brand is decreasing in popularity and sellers are therefore looking to discard the product, or demand for the brand has grown, creating a larger market — and ecommerce aggregator Lyst reported sales of the brand increased 219 percent in early February.
