J. Mendel's Gilles Mendel to Be the Featured Designer at 3rd Annual Autumn Party
The designer, who dressed six actresses for the Emmys last month, will show his resort collection at a major L.A. charity event.
Gilles Mendel of J. Mendel -- which started as a fur company before the French designer began to create luxe, flowy, draped eveningwear that is the stuff of dreams -- has had a lot of Hollywood moments. He's dressed actresses for every major awards show, and now he'll do a resort showing of his eveningwear on Oct. 17 at the third annual Autumn Party benefiting the Children's Institute charity.
This will be the group's third annual party, with a runway show and cocktails, on the roof of the London Hotel. Rochelle Gores Fredston initiated the event three years ago. Tickets start at $150 -- a whole lot less than a J. Mendel dress.
Yes, it's getting to be around the time of year that designers want to show up in Hollywood -- wonder why? Mendel has little to worry about. No fewer than six actresses wore J. Mendel gowns to the Emmys last month, and every single one looked great (which is hard to do): Anna Gunn, Cat Dennings, Jessica Lange, Emily VanCamp, Jennifer Westfeldt and Jena Malone all looked ethereal, and each different and separate from one another.
Mendel is becoming one of the leaders of designer eveningwear in New York, along with Oscar de la Renta and Zac Posen.
