James Cameron, Matt Groening to Headline INK
"Intellectual Mardi Gras" Takes Place in New Indian Township
NEW DELHI -- James Cameron, The Simpsons creator Matt Groening and new age author Deepak Chopra are among the confirmed speakers at the upcoming Innovation and Knowledge Conference to be held December 10-12 in Lavasa, a major new township located about two hours' drive from Mumbai.
INK is organised with the support of the TED (Technology Entertainment Design) India conference that took place last year in Bangalore, which featured a stellar lineup of speakers such as director Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth) and others from various fields.
This will be Cameron's second visit to India, as in March he was at the India Today Conclave in New Delhi and spoke about the future of cinema.
Billed as an “intellectual Mardi Gras," the theme for this year's INK Conference is “Untold Stories,” while other confirmed speakers include director Raju Hirani ( 3 Idiots), product designer Philippe Starck, the world’s youngest school headmaster Babar Ali, Lego designer John-Henry Harris and photographer Rick Smolan.
Host venue Lavasa is spread over 25,000 acres, which was recently in the spotlight following reports that Lavasa backer Hindustan Construction Co. had entered into a franchisee licensing agreement with MGM Studios to establish a Hollywood theme park entailing a reported initial investment of 4.5 billion rupees ($100 million). HCC did not offer any comment at the time.
