James Franco has taken overachieving to a new level.

The Houston Chronicle reports that the Oscar-nominated actor will pursue a Ph.D in literature and creative writing at the University of Houston starting September 2012.

J. Kastely, director of the creative writing program at the school, confirmed that Franco was one of 20 students selected from about 400 applicants for the graduate program. According to Kastely, Franco had originally planned to enroll for the fall 2011 semester, but decided to defer for a year.

This will be the second Ph.D for Franco, who is coming off an Oscar hosting gig and has a number of film projects lined up. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D in English at Yale University and studying digital media at Rhode Island School of Design. He also has various degrees from UCLA, New York University, Brooklyn College and Columbia University.
