James to rule 'Bob' for Universal

With his sitcom "The King of Queens" all wrapped up, Kevin James is setting his sights on the movie world, entering negotiations to star in Universal Pictures' "One Nation Under Bob." The comedy is being produced by Shady Acres' Tom Shadyac and Michael Bostick.

John Scott Shepherd wrote the screenplay, which follows an average guy who inherits a plot of land only to discover that it is a country unto itself and he is now the owner of a sovereign nation.

Shutt-Jones Prods., run by former Universal marketing execs-turned-marketing consultants Buffy Shutt and Kathy Jones, will produce in some capacity.

No director is on board.

Holly Bario is overseeing for Universal.

James, who was nominated for an Emmy last year for his work on "Queens," is making his first outing as a leading man with the upcoming Universal comedy "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry," which he stars in opposite Adam Sandler. He also received praise for his scene-stealing performance in "Hitch."

James is repped by Endeavor and Jeff Sussman Management.
