The actor was criticized by viewers for what sounded like a poor rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Jamie Foxx has broken his silence about what happened with his performance of the national anthem ahead of Saturday night's Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao fight.

The actor was bashed on Twitter for what many viewers heard as a butchering of "The Star-Spangled Banner." But on Tuesday's Ellen DeGeneres Show, Foxx said technical difficulties were to blame for a performance that was "a little off."

He explained that his inner earpieces went out so he couldn't hear the music over the crowd noise, but he said it didn't sound that bad in the arena.

"I can’t hear what the organ is doing with the big crowd," Foxx said. "So some of it was a little off, but in the arena it killed. The telecast was a little off."

He also quickly affirmed his patriotism, adding, "We still love America!"
