Janicza Bravo's Comedy 'Lemon' Acquired by Magnolia

Judy Greer, Michael Cera, Nia Long, Shiri Appleby, Jon Daly, Rhea Perlman and Gillian Jacobs are among the ensemble cast.

Magnolia Pictures is taking a bite out of Lemon, acquiring North American rights to Janicza Bravo's feature directorial debut.

The film, written by Bravo and Brett Gelman, will be released later this year. It screens next at SXSW.

Lemon follows Isaac Lachman (Gelman), a 40-year-old man immobilized by the mediocrity in his life. His career is going nowhere, his girlfriend of 10 years is leaving him, and his family is overbearing. Isaac once had big dreams, but now just watches his life unravel.

Judy Greer, Michael CeraNia Long, Shiri Appleby, Fred Melamed, Jon Daly, Rhea Perlman, David Paymer, Gillian Jacobs, Martin Starr and Marla Gibbs make up the ensemble cast.

The film was produced by David Bernon, Paul Bernon and Sam Slater of Burn Later Productions with Han West and Houston King. David Hinojosa and Christine Vachon from Killer Films served as executive producers along with Bravo and Gelman. Rowan Riley co-produced the film.

The deal was negotiated by Magnolia co-executive vp Dori Begley and senior vp acquisitions John Von Thaden with ICM Partners and UTA on behalf of the filmmakers.
