Japan stabbings prompt show cancellation

Episode of 'Toki' deemed similar to killings

TOKYO -- Tokyo Broadcasting System pulled the Monday night episode of its drama "Toki" in the aftermath of Sunday's mass stabbings in Tokyo that left seven dead.

The drama, which contained a scene of a street stabbing, was considered too similar to the attacks, which have shocked a population largely unaccustomed to random violence.

On Sunday, Tomohiro Kato, 25, drove a two-ton truck into a crowd of pedestrians on a busy shopping street in Akihabara -- the "electric town" famous as a center of Japanese anime, manga and game culture. He then emerged from the vehicle and stabbed more than a dozen strangers before being subdued by police.
