Diablo Cody wrote the script for the comedy, which Focus will release on April 20, 2018.

Focus Features has acquired North American rights to Jason Reitman’s film Tully, which will star Charlize Theron, Mackenzie Davis, Mark Duplass and Ron Livingston.

Focus has set the film for release in the U.S. on April 20, 2018, and also has taken international rights for territories including the U.K., Italy, Spain, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.

The comedy has a screenplay by Academy Award-winner Diablo Cody, who reunites with Reitman and Theron after having worked together on 2011's Young Adult. Cody and Reitman also collaborated on 2007's Juno, for which Cody won the Oscar for best original screenplay.

Tully follows Marlo (Theron), a mother of three, including a newborn, who is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Duplass). Hesitant to accept the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (Davis).

A Bron Studios/Right of Way/Denver and Delilah and West Egg Production, Tully was produced by Bron Studios’ Aaron L. Gilbert; Reitman and Helen Estabrook through their Right of Way Productions; Cody and Mason Novick; and Theron, A.J. Dix and Beth Kono through Denver & Delilah Productions. The project was produced in association with Creative Wealth Media Finance, whose Jason Cloth serves as executive producer.

"We’re thrilled to be teaming up with Jason for the first time after being long admirers of his witty, inspired filmmaking, and once again with Charlize following last year’s award-winning Kubo and the Two Strings and this year’s much-anticipated Atomic Blonde,” Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said in a statement.  “She gives another captivating performance in Tully under Jason’s direction and Diablo’s words that find the perfect balance between comedy and emotion.”

WME Global represented the filmmakers and domestic rights, and Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales.
