Jay-Z announces college arena tour

Rapper also will appear on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show'

NEW YORK -- On the eve of his charity concert in New York, Jay-Z has announced the dates and venues for his fall tour. With 21 dates confirmed -- including Philadelphia, Seattle and Austin -- the tour will visit college campus arenas and traditional venues in North America starting Oct. 9.

The rapper, whose album "The Blueprint 3" was released Tuesday, also revealed that he will appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in the coming weeks and play a small club gig Wednesday night.

During an interview with Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg of New York's Hot 97 (WQHT) station, Jay-Z publicized an interview that took place between him and Winfrey in Brooklyn last month. It will air Sept. 24 and also appear in the October 2009 issue of "O" magazine.

Beginning Sept. 4, fan club members have an opportunity to buy presale tickets for select cities of Jay-Z's tour, and a presale for Citibank cardholders in select cities will begin Tuesday. Tickets go on sale to the public in select markets Friday at livenation.com.

The fall tour is the follow-up to last year's Mary J. Blige & Jay-Z: Heart of the City tour, which grossed more than $35 million, according to Billboard Boxscore.

Prior to the tour kickoff, Jay-Z will hold a charity concert at New York's Madison Square Garden on Friday in support of the New York Police & Fire Widows and Children's Benefit Fund. The show will be broadcast live on Fuse.

MySpace announced Tuesday that he will perform an intimate, free show for his hometown fans two days before his highly anticipated Madison Square Garden charity concert. Presented by DJ Hero, the show will take place at New York's Blender Theater on Wednesday. For more information on how to get tickets, email hiphoptix(at)myspacemusic.com.
