AFM: Jean Prewitt and Charles Rivkin to Headline Global Perspective Conference

Part of the American Film Market, the five-day conference kicks off Nov. 2.

Jean Prewitt, president-CEO of the Independent Film and Television Alliance, and Charles Rivkin, chairman-CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, will together kick off the American Film Market’s five-day Global Perspective Conference on Nov. 2 as they take part in a discussion on challenges facing the film industry. 

The AFM itself will run Oct. 31-Nov. 7 in Santa Monica. 

Following the discussion between Prewitt and Rivkin, the conference will hold two panel sessions with producers, financiers, buyers and distributors to further discuss business strategies amid the evolving marketplace.

New to the lineup this year will be a half-day conference on Nov. 3 dedicated to blockchain, moderated by Pepperdine professor and Forbes writer Nelson Granados, with presentations from companies using the new technology in independent film financing, production and distribution.

This year’s AFM Roundtables will take place in a new venue, the AFM Gallery at Le Merigot Hotel, and feature sessions on “International Awakening: Investing in Gender Diversity for Expanding Audiences Around the Globe”;  “Using Intellectual Property to Boost the Visibility of LGBTQ Characters”;  “Boosting Your Micro-Budget”; “Why Do Some Horror Films Work While Others Don’t?”; and “Producing Passion Documentaries.”

The market’s panel programming will also include Spotlight Events on topics ranging from “Understanding Distribution in China" and "Working With the U.S. Guilds” to subjects like pitching, financing, production and distribution. 

Four Writer’s Workshops, run by UCLA and academic instructors, will cover screenwriting and storytelling tips and techniques.

"Our expanded programming of more than 40 sessions will address the topics most important to AFM’s global participants.”
