John Graham is being upped, while Guy Danella is one of the new hires, coming in from Simon Kinberg's Genre Films.

With Jeff Robinov's Studio 8 releasing its first produced movies, White Boy Rick and Alpha, later this year, the company is focusing on growth, making some key promotions and hires.

Studio 8 has promoted John Graham to head of the development team, and he will now oversee all Studio 8 projects. Graham has been with the banner since 2016, when he joined as senior vp.

Guy Danella, who was an executive at Simon Kinberg's Fox-based Genre Films, has been hired as senior vp film. At Genre, he worked on many of the company's Marvel projects, including X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants, as well as titles such as Hardy Men. Before that, he was senior vp production for Gold Circle Entertainment, the company behind the Pitch Perfect franchise.

Fleshing out the new development team is Greg Self, who joined the company in 2015. He currently serves as a creative executive and has been promoted to director of development. Self was involved in the development of White Boy Rick, Studio 8's drama that stars Matthew McConaughey, which is in postproduction.

Elsewhere, Scott Hatter has been hired as senior vp legal affairs. Hatter previously served as senior vp legal affairs at 20th Century Fox Film, where he worked on such films as Hidden Figures and Gone Girl. Prior to becoming an entertainment lawyer, Hatter was a litigator at Allen Matkins.

Studio 8's White Boy Rick is due to open Aug. 17, while Alpha, directed by Albert Hughes, opens Sept. 14. The company is releasing its movies via Sony Pictures.
