The stars of the new Disney movie strolled down the grassy green carpet for the world premiere.

The El Capitan theater was turned into a miniature garden on Monday evening for the premiere of Disney’s fantasy-drama The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Stars Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton and CJ Adams looked like the picture-perfect family they play in the film as they embraced warmly on the carpet.

In the movie Garner and Edgerton play Cindy and Jim Green, a couple who can only dream of what their child would be like because they are unable to have one of their own. By a stroke of magic that child is created overnight in the form of Adams' character Timothy, a 10-year-old boy with a big heart who changes the lives of everyone he meets.

The three actors talked about how important it was for them to be compatible in order to be convincing as a family, and it came easily as they goofed around on set. “It was awesome because the instant we met we were like another family,” said Adams.

Edgerton, who will next be seen in Kathryn Bigelow's’s Zero Dark Thirty, also enthused about filming. “We had a really wonderful spirit on this movie. Jennifer brings a really great warmth to the set and sense of humor. CJ was a delight,” he told THR. “It's really beautiful to be part of a movie that is so open hearted.”

The story was conceived by producer Ahmet Zappa in 2009. “Family is something we can all relate to and something I was really thinking about at the time,” he said, adding that it was part of his way of getting his then-girlfriend to fall in love with him (the couple married and had a child in 2010).

Though it was Zappa's story, he noted that the film wouldn't have been possible without writer/director Peter Hedges. “He really put his heart and soul into it,” said Zappa.

Hedges said he drew inspiration from classics like It’s a Wonderful Life, The Wizard of Oz and E.T. to bring the ideas of magic and family together.

“We were kids once or we’re kids now and we have parents or we’re going to be parents,” he said. “I like the fact that this is a film that families can go to and people of all ages can go to and get something very particular out of it.”

Young Adams agreed with his director, “I think anyone at any age, whether you're one or one million, will love the movie.”

Also in attendance were Disney chairman Alan Horn, actress Cheryl Hines, Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka, and Disney Channel stars Bella Thorne, Karan Brar and Skai Jackson.

The Odd Life of Timothy Green hits theaters on August 15.
