The designer's capsule with Net-a-Porter boasts the newest summer must-have accessories for Angelenos and Pacific Coast devotees.

The art of shade: Los Angeles-based jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer just launched a California-inspired capsule collection exclusively with Net-a-Porter — think Meyer’s signature delicate rings, bracelets and necklaces all in 18-karat yellow gold with a palm tree motif ($350 to $4,000).

The pieces are just the right amount of kitschy-meets-Hollywood glam and a fun way to add a pop of turquoise (or is that Pacific Ocean blue?). A California girl through and through, Meyer was born and raised in Malibu and her company’s tagline is “made with love in Los Angeles.”

Here, the designer talks about her hometown: where to eat, where to escape on the weekend and even what to watch if you’re just California dreaming.

What specifically about palm trees do you think screams California?

Meyer: To me, palm trees really symbolize the landscape of Los Angeles, one of my favorite places in the world.

Why'd you decided on turquoise for the stones?

I think turquoise and diamonds are one of the most beautiful combinations. And, I hope that these pieces make everyone wearing them feel like they have a little bit of summer — always!

What's your favorite spot in Malibu?

Oh, that is hard! I love it all. There is nothing better than a morning walk on the beach. If you want the best breakfast, go to Malibu Farm — it’s on the pier and the kids love the experience. My favorite lunch is John’s Garden for a hot veggie burger with avocado. And, of course dinner…you can’t find a better view or food than Nobu. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also drive a little bit up the coast to Neptune’s Net for the best fresh fish on the planet.

What's your favorite weekend getaway in California?

If I had to pick just one, it would be San Ysidro Ranch. It’s beyond gorgeous and romantic.

How would you describe the quintessential California girl?

You can spot a California girl from a mile away. They are confident, natural, happy and live life to the fullest. Oh, and we rarely leave California…but why would we?

What are a few of your favorite films set in California?

L.A. Story, Straight Outta Compton, Pretty Woman and Beverly Hills Cop.
