Jet Li urges Chinese to be more charitable

Seeking stable base of funding for disaster relief

HANGZHOU, ZHEJIANG – Jet Li called upon his fellow Chinese citizens to be more charitable Saturday, speaking to a group of entrepreneurs at a conference held by Chinese Internet company Alibaba.

"Speaking politely, our charitable institutions are 20 years behind our economic development," said the "Mummy 3" star, who made no mention of the film during his hour-long appearance on stage.

Li's One Foundation wants supporters to donate one Chinese yuan or U.S. dollar per month to charity as a way of creating a stable base of funding for causes such as disaster relief.
