Jim Sherry takes top post at Maple Pictures

Was president of rival Canadian distributor

TORONTO -- After a year of working as a consultant for the company, veteran releasing executive Jim Sherry has been hired as co-president of Canadian distributor Maple Pictures.

Sherry will oversee Toronto-based Maple alongside Laurie May, who co-founded the distributor in 2005 with Brad Pelman.

Pelman is stepping back to become COO of Maple Pictures, a distribution label.

Sherry was president of rival Canadian movie distributor Motion Picture Distribution before that company was acquired last year by Goldman Sachs and re-emerged as Alliance Films.

Sherry left the company at that point and began to consult for Maple Pictures, which releases Lionsgate titles in Canada.

Maple has chosen to focus on the Canadian movie releasing market, as rivals Alliance Films and Entertainment One diversify into the European market via recent acquisitions.
