J.K. Simmons Joining 'Kong: Skull Island'

The film hits theaters in 2017

 J.K. Simmons is taking a trip to Skull Island.

The actor is joining an ensemble cast led by Tom Hiddleston in Legendary and Universal's Kong: Skull Island, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The King Kong origin story will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein. Kong: Skull Island is an origin story taking place in King Kong's island as a team of explorers trek into his home.

The film will be released on 3D and IMAX Friday, March 10, 2017.

Simmons currently stars in awards contender Whiplash, in which he plays a jazz maestro to Miles Teller's aspiring drummer.
