The opulent penthouse had been listed off and on since 2009.

Joan Rivers' elaborate Upper East Side penthouse reportedly returned to the real estate market on Monday, with Corcoran listing the apartment for $28 million. reported that the property went on sale Monday, but Rivers had listed the 11-room condominium off and on since 2009. Rivers' daughter, Melissa, who inherited her $150 million estate, decided to put the home up for sale shortly after Rivers' death, stated.

In her 2010 documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, Rivers described the ornately decorated, 5,100-square-foot residence as where "Marie Antoinette would have lived if she had money."

Located on East 62nd Street off Fifth Ave., the triplex is located in a limestone mansion, built in 1903 and originally owned by Gilded Age millionaires Alice and John S. Drexel, the Corcoran listing points out. The apartment features a private elevator foyer, a ballroom and adjoining music room with 23-foot ceilings, gilded antique paneling and columns and five fireplaces, one of which is in the wood-paneled library. The home has four bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths with views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline.

Corcoran's Leighton Candler has the listing and spoke to NBC's Today show about the property. Rivers also gave the morning show and its viewers a tour of the apartment in 2011.
