Joe Biden Set to Hold Beverly Hills Fundraiser Hosted By Jeffrey Katzenberg (Exclusive)

Joe Biden is readying his third act.
The former vice president will dust off his fundraising chops for an Oct. 3 fundraiser that will be held in Beverly Hills, just weeks before the country heads to the polls for the midterm elections. The $5,000 per plate event is being organized by Gonring, Spahn and Associates along with Jeffrey Katzenberg. Proceeds will benefit Biden’s PAC American Possibilities, which supports Democratic candidates and causes.
Beyond the money raised, an event of this stature signals to observers that Biden is taking a possible 2020 presidential candidacy very seriously. The 75-year-old would likely enter the presidential race as one of the frontrunners, although he has maintained that any decision about whether he would seek a third presidential bid would come only after the November vote.
In recent weeks, Biden has been upping his visibility, stumping for Democratic House candidate Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey earlier this month. Before that, he was in Pennsylvania campaigning for Democratic Rep. Conor Lamb. Biden reportedly plans to hold several more campaign stops as the midterms near.
His time as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee in the 1990s has also gained new relevancy in light of the allegations of sexual assault made against federal judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court. Biden not only presided over but was also scrutinized for the handling of the 1991 confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. It was during those hearings that Anita Hill alleged the nominee had sexually harassed her while he was her boss.
“For a woman to come forward in the glaring lights of focus, nationally, you’ve got to start off with the presumption that at least the essence of what she’s talking about is real, whether or not she forgets facts, whether or not it’s been made worse or better over time. But nobody fails to understand that this is like jumping into a cauldron,” Biden said according to a report in The Washington Post.
The upcoming Los Angeles fundraiser for Biden comes a week after another possible 2020 Democratic presidential candidate — L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti — will hold his own star-studded fundraiser. DJ Khaled will perform Tuesday at Garcetti’s "1 Night, $1 Million, 10 States, 100s of Victories" event, for which Jimmy Kimmel will be the emcee. The gathering aims raise $100,000 for the state Democratic parties of California, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, Michigan, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
