Much of the 'Morning Joe' production team spent the night at Bellevue Hospital in New York.

It was a "frightening day and a long night" for Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough after his son endured a serious head injury on Thursday.

25-year-old Andrew Scarborough fractured his skull after falling down a flight of stairs. A visibly shaken up Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski said much of the show's production team was at Bellevue Hospital in New York through the night.

"Andrew had a horrible accident, a head injury, fractured skull," Brzezinski said during the show. "But they stabilized him. That trauma team is amazing."

Joe Scarborough wrote on Twitter his son was on the mend.

"Andrew doing much better after a frightening day and long night. Our family thanks all for keeping Andrew in your thoughts and prayers," he wrote.

A follow-up tweet said that Andrew had been examined by a neurologist:

"The neurologist asked Andrew questions this morning and ended by asking him his favorite team," Joe tweeted. "He said, 'The Red Sox, who've won 8 in a row.'"

Nicole Wallace, a former communications rep for George W. Bush, filled in for Scarborough while he attended to his son.

Brzezinski, who was consoled by Wallace during the show, is rumored to be in a relationship with Scarborough.
