The 'Love & Mercy' actor then called out 'The Daily Beast' on Twitter for turning the interview "into salacious gossipy eye catching out of context headline grabbing manipulative bullshit."

John Cusack doesn't shy away from talking about politics, but he hopes that other people who do so "do it seriously."

During an interview with The Daily Beast, the Love & Mercy actor was asked about a recent CNN poll, which concluded that George W. Bush’s approval rating is now higher than President Barack Obama's.

"Well, Obama has certainly extended and hardened the cement on a lot of Bush’s post-9/11 Terror, Inc. policies, so he’s very similar to Bush in every way that way," responded Cusack. "His domestic policy is a bit different, but when you talk about drones, the American Empire, the NSA, civil liberties, attacks on journalism and whistleblowers, he’s as bad or worse than Bush.

"He hasn’t started as many wars, but he’s extended the ones we had, and I don’t even think Dick Cheney or Richard Nixon would say the president has the right to unilaterally decide whom he can kill around the world," he continued. "On Tuesdays, the president can just decide whom he wants to kill, and you know, since 9/11 there are magic words like 'terror,' and if you use magic words, you can justify any power grab you want."

After the article — which also discussed Cusack's portrayal of Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson in the new Bill Pohlad-directed biopic, his profound psychedelic experiences, Vince Vaughn's comments on guns, nearly getting cast in The Breakfast Club and the Con Air era of summer movies — was published, the actor called out The Daily Beast on Twitter.
