"Some see his greed and they mistake it for being good at business. Some of your former favorite rappers have been taken in by these lies. I think they even founded a new supergroup, it’s called the Sunken Place," said the singer while in Philadelphia.

John Legend took the stage at a Philadelphia rally on Monday night to deliver an impassioned speech in support of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and vice presidential nominee Sen. Kamala Harris.

"So yes, we've lost a lot," the singer said after ruminating on the global coronavirus pandemic and the recent police shooting of Philadelphia native Walter Wallace, Jr. "But Philadelphia, what we haven't lost is our ability to decide what happens next. In this election, your vote will decide whether we're a country that allows this pandemic to continue indefinitely or one with a plan to end it."

Seated behind a piano, Legend went on to call out President Donald Trump's attempt to dismantle healthcare for 20 million Americans under Obamacare, encouragement of police brutality and refusal to condemn white supremacists, as well as take aim at a few fellow unnamed musicians in his remarks.

"Now, some people see the meanness, the bullying, the selfishness of Donald Trump and they mistake it for strength, a kind of twisted masculinity," he continued. "Some see his greed and they mistake it for being good at business. Some of your former favorite rappers have been taken in by these lies. I think they even founded a new supergroup, it’s called the Sunken Place."

Legend was later joined on stage by wife Chrissy Teigen, who made her first public appearance at the rally following the tragic loss of the couple's third baby prior to his birth.

Earlier in the day, Teigen gave her followers a sneak peek at the lead-up to the campaign event, sharing the view of Philadelphia from her hotel room as well as a behind-the-scenes moment in the motorcade en route to the rally.
