The longtime 'McLaughlin Group' host died Tuesday.

John McLaughlin, the conservative political commentator and longtime host of The McLaughlin Group, died Tuesday morning at his home in Virginia. He was 89.

The long-running TV show posted about the host's death on its Facebook page, saying he "passed away peacefully," adding, "Now he has said bye bye for the last time, to rejoin his beloved dog, Oliver, in heaven. He will always be remembered."

No cause of death was mentioned, but an ailing McLaughlin had missed the taping for this past weekend's show for the first time in the series' 34 years, the Associated Press reported.

His colleagues, as well as fellow TV and news personalities, took to Twitter on Tuesday to pay tribute.
