The "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" star is thought to be 20th cousins with the queen.

Could Johnny Depp actually be British royalty?

Nick Barratt, a researcher for the BBC's Who Do You Think You Are?, told the U.K.'s Sunday Mirror that he's discovered a connection between Depp and the royal family.

"I've since established the family tree that demonstrates how,” Barratt said. “You have to go back more than 500 years to reach the point where his ancestors become royal."

Apparently, the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides star and Queen Elizabeth share the same great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather.

That would make Depp and the queen 20th cousins.

"I believe the balance of probability is that there is indeed a link between Depp and the royals -- though I doubt we'll ever be able to prove it 100 percent," added Barratt, who also is editor-in-chief of Your Family History magazine.
