"I’m 37 and finally love and accept myself," wrote the actor in a message on Instagram.

Jonah Hill is speaking up about body positivity and confidence in the wake of a Daily Mail article that included a shirtless photo of him during a day of surfing in Malibu.

The actor took to Instagram on Friday to share his reaction and the struggle he used to have with his body image, before clarifying that these types of images no longer faze him due to being comfortable within himself and his body.

"I don’t think I ever took my shirt off in a pool until I was in my mid 30s even in front of family and friends," wrote Hill. "Probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities weren’t exacerbated by years of public mockery about my body by press and interviewers. So the idea that the media tries to play me by stalking me while surfing and printing photos like this and it can’t phase me anymore is dope. I’m 37 and finally love and accept myself."

The actor explained that this is not a "good for me" or "feel bad for me" post, but rather one "for the the kids who don’t take their shirt off at the pool." To those kids, Hill wrote, "Have fun. You’re wonderful and awesome and perfect. All my love."

His post included a screenshot of the article he was referencing, with the shirtless photo prominently featured beside a snap of Hill in wetsuit. The actor added as he signed off, "Oh and Daily Mail, not even you can take that smile from my face ;)."

There were a number of responses to his post from industry colleagues, such as Judd Apatow who wrote, "When I take my shirt off at the beach it looks like I am still wearing a shirt...or sweater. Now I will show it off with pride!"

Johnny Knoxville reacted to the post simply with two heart emojis, while Justin Timberlake wrote, "You are a G!!! And my spirit animal! Love you, bro!"
