The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation will honor programming by and about women on May 19.

Julia Roberts, Cicely Tyson, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Olivia Munn are among those who will be honored at the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation’s 40th anniversary Gracies Awards, which will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on May 19.

Established in 1975, The Gracie Awards recognize outstanding programming by, for and about women in all facets of radio, television, cable and web-based media including: news, drama, comedy, public service, documentary and sports.

=Tyson will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Gyllenhaal will be honored as outstanding female actor in a leading role in a drama for her performance in Sundance TV’s The Honorable Woman. Roberts will receive the grand award for outstanding female actor in a supporting role - drama for HBO’s The Normal Heart, while Munn has been named outstanding female actor in a supporting role – drama for HBO’s The Newsroom.

The honorees also include Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, which is being hailed as best comedy.

Kristen Welch, Alliance for Women in Media Foundation Chair, said in making the announcement, “Though we receive hundreds of submissions from all over the country every year, it never ceases to amaze us of all the great work that has been done to further highlight women in media. We are thrilled to honor such smart, thoughtful and inspirational individuals, organizations and programming this year.”

Local, public and student winners in radio and TV will be honored separately at the Gracies Awards Luncheon on June 22 in New York.
