The former Stoopid Buddy Stoodios and Big Breakfast exec will head up the live comedy group's TV business as head of development.

Former Stoopid Buddy Stoodios and Big Breakfast exec Spencer Griffin is joining the Just for Laughs comedy festival as head of TV development.

Griffin joins the Montreal-based festival group as it drives deeper into TV under the Just for Laughs banner. In the newly created post, Griffin will develop TV specials and series for broadcast, cable and streaming platforms.

Griffin was most recently head of live-action development and production for Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, the producer of comedy series like Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken and Crackle’s Supermansion. Griffin also served as senior vp and executive producer at the comedy brand Big Breakfast.

His TV credits include TruTV’s Adam Ruins Everything, PopTV’s Hot Date, IFC’s Comedy Music Hall of Fame and MTV’s The Middle of the Night Show. As the TV development boss, Griffin will report to Just for Laughs president Bruce Hills.

The comedy festival has done TV series like the hidden-camera reality series Just for Laughs Gags, formats like House of Pranks and over 150 hours of stand-up comedy specials featuring talent like Neil Patrick Harris, Trevor Noah and Sarah Silverman.

With Griffin's hire, Just for Laughs is stepping up its TV push. "Just for Laughs prides itself on developing high quality comedy-related television content, and we can’t wait for Spencer to get started on some of these new projects on the horizon," Charles Decarie, president and CEO of the Just for Laughs Group, said in a statement.
