Kabel Deutschland doubles net losses

Partly due to acquisition of parts of Orion Cable network

COLOGNE, Germany -- Germany's largest cablenet Kabel Deutschland (KDG) continues to expand its reach but year-end figures, published Thursday, reveal a doubling of net losses to €72 million ($101 million), largely due to the acquisition of parts of the Orion Cable network.

Revenues, however, are moving in the right direction, up 14.5% to €1.37 billion ($1.92 billion) in the year to March 31, 2009. KDG also showed progress in its digital roll out, with subscribers to its digital pay TV services up 9% to 850,000 and subscriptions for KDG's cable Internet and telephony services shot up 88% to 1.4 million on the year.

KDG boosted its total customer base to 9 million from 8.8 million a year earlier.
