Karlovy Vary to honor Jude Law

To get lifetime achievement award during July 2-10 festival

COLOGNE, Germany -- British actor Jude Law will receive the Karlovy Vary lifetime achievement honor, the President's Award, at this year's event.

The Czech Festival will screen Anthony Minghella's "The Talented Mr. Ripley" in Law's honor. Law received his first Oscar nomination for his portrayal of spoiled rich boy Dickie Greenleaf in the Mingella adaptation of the Patricia Highsmith crime novel. Law won a best actor BAFTA for the same role.

More recently, Law has appeared as Dr. Watson in Guy Ritchie's "Sherlock Holmes" and as part of the A-list cast that replaced the deceased Heath Ledger in Terry Gilliam's "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus."

The 45th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival runs from July 2-10.
