Kate Winslet is in negotiations to join Idris Elba in The Mountain Between Us, Fox 2000’s adaptation of the Charles Martin book.
Hany Abu-Assad (Paradise Now) is directing the film, which is being produced by Chernin Entertainment's Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping.
The romantic drama tells of a woman, engaged to be married, and a surgeon who charter a plane to get them home after inclement weather delays their flight. When the plane crashes in a snowy wilderness, the two must work together to survive.
Chris Weitz wrote the most recent draft. The studio is eyeing a December start in British Columbia.
Winslet is a seven-time Oscar nominee, winning for 2008’s The Reader, and was last seen in John Hillcoat’s gritty crime thriller Triple 9. She next stars with Will Smith in Collateral Beauty, New Line’s drama that is set to open Dec. 16.
Winslet is repped by CAA and United Agents.
