Kathryn Bigelow tapped for ShoWest nod

'Hurt Locker' helmer to be honored for directorial work

Kathryn Bigelow, who helmed the upcoming Iraq War drama "The Hurt Locker," will be honored with a ShoWest Triumph Award for outstanding direction.

Bigelow will be feted at a luncheon set for April 2, the closing day of the annual exhibition confab. ShoWest begins Monday at the Bally's and Paris hotels in Las Vegas.

"Kathryn Bigelow's career has spanned over two decades and nine films that showcase her instinctive artistry," ShoWest co-managing director Mitch Neuhauser said. "Kathryn touches each film she directs with a clarity that is unprecedented."

Summit Entertainment opens "Locker" on June 26. Bigelow's film credits include helming the 2002 submarine drama "K:19 The Widowmaker," the sci-fi thriller "Strange Days" (1995), the heist pic "Point Break" (1991) and the vampire Western "Near Dark" (1987).
