Kathy Dore exiting CanWest

Has been president of broadcaster for four years

TORONTO -- Kathy Dore is stepping down as president of Canadian broadcaster CanWest Broadcasting after four years in the post.

Dore, who came to Canada in October 2004 from New York-based Rainbow Media Holdings, will leave the network when her contract expires at the end of the year and a replacement is found.

Dore said Thursday that, now that CanWest has absorbed the 13 cable channels recently acquired from Alliance Atlantis Communications, "it's time to pass the baton."

Sunni Boot, president and CEO of Toronto-based media buyer ZenithOptimedia, said that Dore feels it is time to return to family and commitments stateside.

A CanWest spokesman said Dore told the network she could extend her contract for a year at most, but could not make a long-term commitment.
