Rick Kaplan announced that Thursday will be his last day.

Katie Couric's producer Rick Kaplan has announced he's leaving CBS Evening News.

Thursday will be Kaplan's last day, network sources confirm.

He rejoined the network four years ago to head up Couric's newscast.

He started at CBS in the 1970s when Walter Cronkite anchored the Evening News. The following two decades, he worked at ABC News, and later went on to be president of CNN/U.S. from 1997 to 2000, and MSNBC from 2004 to 2006.

Couric will be replaced by Scott Pelley on June 6. She is eyeing a daytime TV show.

The executive producer of the CBS Early Show, David Friedman, also recently stepped down.
