Katy Perry to guest star on 'The Simpsons'

Singer to appear in live-action spot on Xmas-themed episode

NEW YORK -- Katy Perry's planned appearance on "Sesame Street" may have been cancelled, but the pop star already has another TV cameo lined up. The "California Gurls" singer will trade Elmo for bartender Moe and guest star on an upcoming Christmas-themed episode of Fox's "The Simpsons."

According to EW, Perry will play herself on "The Simpsons," but will not be animated. Instead, she will play the role of bartender Moe's girlfriend in a live-action scene that features the show's cast as puppets.

"In the wake of Elmo's terrible betrayal, the Simpsons puppets wish to announce they stand felt-shoulder-to-shoulder with Katy Perry," joked "The Simpsons" executive producer Al Jean in a statement. Perry's appearance was filmed before her wardrobe-related "Sesame Street" controversy.

Homer and the "Simpsons" gang will also join Perry in a rendition of "The 39 Days of Christmas" during the episode, which is titled "The Fight Before Christmas" and scheduled to air Dec. 5 on Fox.
