Keeping Up With Lakeith Stanfield's Changing Style
At the Emmy Awards, the 'Atlanta' star did something that even trophy-toting actresses don't do after the awards show: He changed ensembles three times in one night.
Atlanta actor Lakeith Stanfield pulled off what no other star at the Emmys could: three different, unique outfits throughout the party-hopping night.
The actor started off on the red carpet in a dark green Ermenegildo Zegna Couture suit, complete with gold jewelry on his black bow tie. (He even surprised photographers by taking a seat on the carpet and holding up the parade of stars.) But as soon as the show ended, he was spotted at the Governors Ball wearing an Antonio Marras suit that featured a watercolor landscape on it.
And then, just an hour later, he was sporting an Etro blazer paired with Officine Generale pants and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes at the Fox and FX afterparty. It’s unusual for most stars to change between parties at the Emmys, mostly because of the logistical challenges (changing in a public bathroom or rushing off to a neighboring hotel would be the most feasible — yet uncomfortable — options) but Stanfield was able to pull it off with the assistance of stylist Darryl Glover, who helped Stanfield change in his chauffeured car between events (in the case of the FX party, the car was right outside of the red carpet while he was changing).
Even his first look, it turns out, was a last-minute decision. “We were doing a completely different suit all the way up until the day before,” says Glover, who said that Stanfield wanted to have a more luxurious look. “We went with the green tuxedo, and I found a bunch of gold accessories.”
Stanfield has been getting noticed for his adventurous style, including a Comic-Con appearance and red carpet looks for the premiere of Netflix movie Death Note, all summer. “He has a very distinct personal style, and I’m kind of taking from that,” says Glover. “Everything is unexpected, so I try to find out a look that’s far out there, and most of the time he likes it. I like that he’s interested in taking these risks.”
