Kelley Avery joins DWA

Is worldwide head of franchise strategy and distribution

Kelley Avery has joined DreamWorks Animation as worldwide head of franchise strategy and distribution, a newly created position.

Avery moves to DWA from her role as president of worldwide home entertainment at Paramount, which distributes DWA's films. She will now oversee the development of the company's global franchise plan, including new product and business initiatives, distribution of content on physical and digital platforms and the studio's existing home entertainment business.

"With our increased slate of films and our new franchise initiatives, the time is right to bring in an executive of Kelley's considerable talent and experience to help us develop these properties and drive new revenue opportunities across numerous platforms," said DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg.

Among DWA's existing franchises are the "Shrek," "Madagascar" and "Kung Fu Panda" properties. The company has "How to Train Your Dragon" releasing in March, "Shrek Forever After" releasing in May and "Oobermind" releasing in November of next year.

Avery has worked in the industry for more than 25 years, including stints in home entertainment at DreamWorks and Walt Disney Studios.
