Kelly Clarkson Urges Fans to "Stand for Something" at Billboard's Women in Music 2017
"I feel like for me, personally, it's important to be involved, and it's important to show my fans to be involved."
At the 2017 Billboard Women in Music event, Kelly Clarkson was honored as this year's Powerhouse Award winner. Before heading inside to be feted, the former American Idol winner stopped by the red carpet to chat with Billboard's Chelsea Briggs and Keith Caulfield.
When asked what the term "powerhouse" meant to her, Clarkson said with a laugh: "I guess it's someone who walks into a room and, like them or hate them, they're here!"
The singer shared why she isn't too afraid to get political, especially in the current climate. “I feel like for me, personally, it’s important to be involved, and it's important to show my fans to be involved. You should stand for something.”
Clarkson's latest album, Meaning of Life, was released in October, and she called it the "proudest moment" of her entire career. "I've done a lot of cool things, but this project I've been waiting to do since I was a kid," she explained. "Just being allowed to just have the creative freedom that I've had is a blessing. It's what the creative industry should be."
