Chris Wallace had said on a radio show Friday that the singer "could stay off the deep-dish pizza for a little while."

Fox News host Chris Wallace has apologized to Kelly Clarkson after commenting on her weight

Wallace was a guest on the radio show The Mike Gallagher Show on Friday, where Gallagher said of the former American Idol winner, "Holy cow, did she blow up." Wallace added, "She could stay off the deep-dish pizza for a little while."

In a statement released Sunday, Wallace said he regretted his remark. "I sincerely apologize to Kelly Clarkson for my offensive comment," he said. "I admire her remarkable talent and that should have been the focus of any discussion about her."

Clarkson, who was mocked last month by British TV personality Katie Hopkins about her figure, discussed her weight gain with Ellen DeGeneres on Friday. "You're just who you are," Clarkson said. "We are who we are. Whatever size."
